Description
Ok, so you all know about skiing in Vermont, but Vermont is also an incredible oasis of outdoor adventure in the summertime too. This summer, enjoy July 4th Weekend (well, actually there is no July 4th weekend, but this one is as close as it gets) with 50 of your closest friends in the mountains of Vermont. YAY!
Being that we are the JEWISH outdoors club, not only will we have outdoor adventure galore, but the food can’t be beat either: All meals, fully catered starting with omelets made to order at breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and three course dinners at night.
WHAT IS THE ITINERARY?
Thursday, June 28: Arrive Thursday night to our lodge near Mt Snow. Check in and enjoy a late night snack as you meet your fellow JOCers .
Friday, June 29: After a great breakfast prepared by our chef Favy Grunwald we will head out for whitewater rafting on the Deerfield River. Options are for a relatively tame ride (Class II-III) or a wilder ride (class III-IV). Come back to the lodge, perhaps take a quick swim in the pool and prepare for Shabbat.
Shabbat: Enjoy a spiritual and fun Shabbat. Games, socializing, food, Myers-Briggs session
Sat night: Hit the town! And/or enjoy the hot tub – open all night long
Sunday, July 1: We will have a guided (moderate level) hike to the top of Mt Snow and enjoy spectacular views. For those who wish, there is a mountain biking option in the trails around Mt Snow. We’ll head back to the inn for a lunchtime BBQ and from there we will take a short drive to beautiful Lake Whitingham where we can rent all sorts of water toys including waverunners, pontoon boats, canoes, kayaks and more. Head home around 4 or 5pm
WHAT IS THE COST?
The cost is based on number of folks sharing the room and date of payment. If payment is RECEIVED by May 31st you will save $35. The cost per person starts at $295, which, as always, is kept reasonable, as we have no advertising fees and no profit for organizers of JOC events. Please see below for a complete breakdown.
Payment If Received BY Thursday 5/31:
Thursday 6/28 - Sunday 7/1
Quad: 295 / Triple: 315 / Double: 335 / Single: 375
Payment If Received AFTER Thursday 5/31: (additional $35):
Thursday 6/28 - Sunday 7/1
Quad: 330 / Triple: 350 / Double: 370 / Single: 410
There are only a couple of quad rooms available, and three triples have bunk beds - so reserve early to get your choice of accommodations.
Cost includes the stay at the inn through Sunday afternoon, housekeeping gratuities and all meals / snacks (we promise that you wont go hungry!). There are additional costs for activities such as whitewater rafting, kayaking and mountain biking. These expenses will all be “at cost”, and details will be sent to attendees in due time.
WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?
We are staying at the Gray Ghost Inn, the same as our ski trip the past few years. First off there’s an outdoor pool and hot tub. The rooms are cute & cozy, each with it’s own bathroom. There’s a large game room with pool and ping pong tables, and a spacious lounge area where the couches are circled around a great fireplace.
HOW DOES TRANSPORTATION WORK?
We will put together a spreadsheet with the names of everyone going and will list the drivers. In due time, the spreadsheet will go out to the attendees, and it will be your responsibility to call and find a ride. To make sure that we have enough cars we’ll need to sign up at least 17 drivers & at some point may have to hold registration for passengers until we have enough drivers. Passengers: You will be asked to reimburse your drivers for gas and tolls (approx $20 per passenger).
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE AND GENDER?
The genders are usually about split. The ages range from 21-40, with an average of about 30 if I had to guess. The great majority of attendees are single, but some are married. Please note that this is not a singles event (although we do have some marriages to our credit)! Additionally, many attendees will be first timers, so dont be timid if you are a newcomer - we are a fun and welcoming group :)
KASHRUT ETC:
All meals are strictly kosher (fleishig meals are Glatt), we will have a minyan over Shabbat (with a sefer torah), but it’s a “come as you are” atmosphere :)
