Description

Last year I had a fabulous opportunity to experience theGiantStairsHike on the western shore of the Hudson River. OnSunday,November 11, I am planning revisit this beautiful hikebeforethe endof the foliage season, and Id love for you to join me.

Thishikeis geared toward welcoming new JOCers ages 20-29... Perhapsyouvebeen receiving the e-mails for a while and waiting forjust therighttime to jump in--then this hike is for YOU!  Readon for moreinfo:

HIKE DETAILS:
Thetrails at the NY-NJ State LineLookout offer a wide range ofhikingadventures just minutes from NYC,where the New Jersey Palisadesreachmore than 500 feet above the HudsonRiver.  The Giant StairsHikeoffers breathtaking views (from theGWB to the Tappan Zee) andgreathiking challenges--lots of rockscrambling right alongside theHudsonRiver.  There is an addedbonus of Peanut LeapCascade--abeautiful waterfall we will pass alongthe way.

HOW DIFFICULT IS THE HIKE?
Goodquestion! This is not an easy hike, but it is also not inleaguewith climbingMount Washington in the middle of thewinter.  Thetrail is flat formuch of the way where it followsthe shore of theHudson, but there aregiant stairs the size ofboulders that descend 500feet at the beginningand end of thetrail.  It is doable forpeople in decent shape. Ifyou havedifficulty walking up hills or haveproblems withyourknees/legs/ankles/hips/toes/etc., I would not adviseattendingthishike.

We plan to set a moderate pace and includelots of timefor pictures, detours, lunch, and other adventures. Bottom line...if you areadventurous and dont plan to complain, you arein.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF HIKERS?
This hike is geared towards participants aged 20-29.  On average, most people will probably be in their mid to late 20s.

Iaminviting around 30 hikers (aiming for even ratios ofmenandwomen).  JOC hikes are NOT "singles events"--and wewanttoensure a welcoming friendly environment for all participants.

Wewill meet at the State Line Lookout off the PalisadesInterstateParkwayNorth (less than 10 miles from the GWB) at 9:00 onSunday,November11.  Cost is $2 to the JOC (plus $7 to reimburseyourdriver).
