Description

Good Friday all.

I will be hiking Breakneck Ridge this Sunday (11/11/2007) and you are welcome to join me. This is not going to be a typical JOC hike:

·        There will be no point

·        There will be no sweep

·        I will not be arranging travel

·        I will not be checking water, food or gear

·        There will be no registration

·        There will be no fee

It is up to you to get yourself there and equip yourself properly. I recommend 2 liters of water, food, appropriate footwear, warm clothes...

Here are the details:

Where: We will be hiking up Breakneck Ridge, located just north of Cold

Spring, NY, about an hour and a half from the UWS.

Difficulty level of hike: 9. That’s correct - NINE. It is one of the most strenuous hikes in the NYC area. It should only be attempted if you are in good shape, can keep up and have the full use of all of your

extremities, including, and not limited to: hands, arms, feet and legs.

This is a hard core hike with plenty of scrambling. We will be moving at a moderate speed. THIS IS NOT A BEGINNERS HIKE!!! If you are not sure if this is for you, it probably isnt. Nevertheless, if you survive the hike up, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Hudson River and the surrounding area.

Meeting Location: The parking area on 9D near the trailhead, just past the tunnel. Here are the approximate GPS coordinates:  +41° 27 18.07", -73° 58 55.60". Here is a link to google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=41.45502N+73.98211W&sourceid=mozilla-search&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&um=1&sa=N&tab=wl

Meeting time: 10:30 AM

Length of hike – approximately 4 – 5 miles.

Registration: there will be none. If you are planning on coming, you can send me an e-mail to let me know. I will be leaving on time. If you are not there, I will assume you are not coming.

Transportation: You have to find your own way there. If you have a car, great. (GPS location is listed above). If you want to drive some friends, even better. If you need to take public transportation, there is a Metro North train that leaves Grand Central at 8:51 and arrives at Breakneck Ridge at 10:14. (Ask the conductor which door to exit because it is not a station – they stop in the middle of the track.) When you get to the road, make a right and walk to the parking lot where I will be waiting.

Reiteration: This is not a beginner’s hike and we will be moving at a moderate pace.

Return time: We will get back when we get back. (There are plenty of return trains from Cold Spring station).

Questions?: I will not be answering questions or responding to e-mails. Use your best judgment, be realistic and mature. If you don’t think the hike is for you, it probably isn’t. It is your responsibility to bring all the appropriate water, food, gear, and anything else needed to survive.

Have a good Shabbos.
