Description
The Presidential Range Traverse in New Hampshire.
National Geographic Adventure Magazine rated it the # 8 best adventure in America. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0003/100adventures_new.html
Mount Madison, Adams, Jefferson, Clay, Washington, Monroe, Franklin, Eisenhower and Pierce. 19.8 miles. 8,500 feet of vertical gain. Done by normal people over a three day period.
We do it in one.
WHAT? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
As crazy as it sounds, this is not some JOC concoction. A single day traverse is a coveted achievement for serious hikers. The "Death March", as it is called, had been done many times before, and there is much literature on it. In fact, an even more insane version that we will not be doing covers 11 mountains in 24 miles, adding Mt Jackson and Mr Webster.
The Plan: The basic plan is to drive up the previous afternoon, get to bed super early, and be on the trail at 5:00 am. The goal is to finish before sunset.
The Date: The date is June 30-July 1 (midweek. Sorry- fits my schedule best :) )
The People: So I'm looking for no more than 5 other hardy souls who are crazy enough to try this thing with me, and carry me if necessary :) .
It goes without saying that being in top shape is a must. If you are a marathon runner, that is not good enough. Iron Man, maybe. Ok, I exagerrate, but top fitness and comfort on rock scrambles is key. Significant hiking experience is an absoute must, and I will have to turn you away if you can't demonstrate that experience. This is simply too dangerous an endeavor to risk otherwise.
Plus, you'll have me on your shoulders, remember?
