Esopus Creek Tubing!!!
Love the river? Love nature? Are you a bit of a thrill seeker? Well, then this event is for you! On Sunday, September 06, 2009 JOC will head to the Esopus Creek in the Catskills for our tubing trip on DAM RELEASE DAY! Gear up for this popular JOC trip! This event will fill up fast! Those who have gone before will tell you that if you have a thirst for ADVENTURE, this is one trip you should not miss. In the past, this trip was so wild and crazy, after the first run down the 70 attendees couldn't help but wonder how the heck it was legal. Then, pretty much everybody went and did a second run down the creek. This year's trip promises to be as adrenaline pumping as ever!
WARNING:
1) You will get wet on this ride!
2) You will flip!
3) You may get some scratches and bruises!
4) You will have fun!
AWESOME! So I bet this trip must cost a fortune, right? WRONG!!!
Cost: ONLY $29 (plus $15 to reimburse your driver if you need a ride)
Early Bird Rate: Take advantage of our early bird rate for only $25 if you register by Monday, August 24th.
Refund Policy: Cancellations will be granted for a 100% refund until Monday, August 31st. Beyond that it will be your responsibility to find someone to claim your spot.
Schedule:
We will check in at 11:15 am sharp. Please note that it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there from the city. Please budget your time accordingly. We expect to hit the river at around 12:00. The ride down the creek takes about 2 hours. If you are doing one
run, you can head back by about 2:30 -3:00 pm (later if doing a second run).
People usually hang out by the picnic tables till late afternoon, while we
send out rescue teams to find those who missed the turnoff. Snacks will be served.
Ride:
Thanks to the generosity of our drivers we can set up carpooling leaving from the city and surrounding areas. Each passenger will be expected to reimburse their drivers $15 for gas, toll, and wear & tear.

Here are the details in Q and A:
When and where do we leave (from)?
I will organize carpooling leaving from the city and its surrounding areas (based on driver availability) Sunday, September 06, 2009 at 8:45 am (stay tuned for directions and ride info).
What should I bring?
Bring bathing suit, water shoes or sneakers/footwear that you don't mind getting wet (flip flops won’t do), sunscreen, plenty of drinking water (at least two bottles), a camera, money, eyeglass retainers (if necessary) and also bring lunch (snacks will be available at the picnic areas).
What does it cost?
The outing costs $25 if paid and registered by Mon Aug 24th (beyond that price goes up to $29) which includes tube rental, life jacket, shuttle up to the creek, helmet, and lots of snacks (pretzels, chips, chumus...). This is less than you would pay for this package if you went on your own, plus you get food. If you are a passenger in a car, you will also need to pay $15 to reimburse your driver for gas and tolls and depreciation on the car.
Is it dangerous?
Like I wrote, this is a pretty wild run. I don't mean to scare anyone, but yes, people have drowned on the Esopus, (just as people have drowned canoeing the Delaware River or kayaking the Hudson , though most of them were drunk). Be responsible, listen carefully to instructions given by the outfitter, follow the course, and you should be fine.
What if it is raining?
We'll go in light rain, but in the event of thunderstorms we’ll cancel and issue a full refund.
