You’ve seen it looming in the distance; or maybe you’ve been stuck on it while driving home during rush hour traffic. I’m talking about the Brooklyn Bridge, an iconic landmark that can only be truly experienced once you’ve crossed it on foot. If you’ve always wanted to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge but haven’t had the motivation, then here’s your chance. Join me on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:45pm for a sunset walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Here’s the info: Where will we meet? We’ll meet at 6:45 sharp on the Manhattan-side footpath of the Brooklyn Bridge. What if I’m late? While we won’t be waiting around for latecomers, you’ll still have the option of starting out on your own and catching up with us at some point on the bridge. How strenuous is the walk? We’ll be walking across the bridge at a leisurely yet moderate pace. The footpath spans a little over one mile in each direction, so we’ll be walking a total of 2 and a quarter miles all in. While the walk itself shouldn’t take more than an hour, we might stop along the bridge to take pictures, chat, and reflect (hey, it is the week before Rosh Hashanah). What do I need to bring? Comfortable walking shoes, a bottle of water, and a jacket or windbreaker are all recommended. What is the cost? Free! Consider it a Rosh Hashanah gift from the JOC to you. How do we get there? The footpath is located at Park Row right across from City Hall Park. You can take the 4, 5, or 6 trains to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall stop. Other train lines will get you close to the footpath as well – just consult your subway map and pick the route that is most convenient for you. What if it rains? Do I have to sign up, or can I simply just show up “day of?” If you show up without emailing me first, then you won’t be turned away.
