ORGANIZERS: Justin Backman DATE: Sunday, November 15, 2009 11:45 am – 4 pm WHERE: We are headed to a secret undisclosed location in NJ about 1 and ½ hours from Manhattan (you must sign up and pay to get the details – this is to discourage gate crashers) DESCRIPTION The JOC is heading out for an afternoon of paintball. The paintball location has three different fields and a number of games we can play, including last man standing and capture the flag. WAIT A SECOND - WHAT IS PAINTBALL? For newcomers, paintball is a sport involving two teams that play against each other, each person using a paintball markers to shoot members of the opposing team, in reaching your objective (capture the flag, kill the general, total elimination, etc...). In a half day, We’ll play anywhere between 5 and 10 games (depending on which games we play) DO PAINTBALLS HURT? Yes and No. Generally, you’ll feel a sting, as if you were snapped at by a towel. Sometimes, they hurt less, sometimes more, like if they don’t explode on you, or if shot from close range. Either way, you will come away with nickel sized welts, but the pain rarely lasts more than a few moments. HOW INTENSE IS THE PLAY? Certainly, some players will be more experienced than others, but our general game is a fun, recreational one, not like one of those hardcore military groups that come with bazookas and stuff. WHAT DOES IT COST? Well, if you are an early bird (and pay before November 4), the costis $32. The cost is $37 after that via paypal (payment must be received by November 11). This includes high quality semi-automatic paint marker, CO 2/Compressed air fill (i.e., FREE AIR!), admission, goggles and mask system. Also included are 200 paintballs. Extra Paintballs are $80 for a case of 2000 ( 10 people can split the cost of a case each getting another 200 paintballs), and you pay for it there, directly to the place. Expect to use between 200-500 paintballs for the half day depending on how trigger happy you are, and how badly you play :) HOW DO I SIGN UP? I will take up to 20 people, and no more. Drivers who have paid will be guaranteed one of the 20 spots. All others will be placed on a waiting list until a driver has signed up with room to take passengers. HOW DOES TRANSPORTATION WORK? I’ll send out a spreadsheet with participants and drivers. You will be responsible to contact drivers to catch a ride. I will make sure to have a workable ratio of drivers to passengers. Passengers: Please be courteous to drivers since they are volunteering their services. Don’t book a ride with multiple drivers, bring exact change, and pay your driver appreciation fee BEFORE being asked. We are suggesting that drivers leaving from Manhattan and nearby points in New Jersey are reimbursed $10 by each passenger and those leaving from other NYC boroughs or further sections of NJ are reimbursed $12-$15 to cover additional tolls. WHAT TIME WILL WE START? We will meet at the location at 11:45, have a quick lunch in the parking lot, and start playing paintball at 12:30 sharp. We'll be able to play until 4:00pm, so if you arrive late, then you'll end up missing out. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Bring comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, covering skin below the face. Pack a poncho in case it rains. Bring paper towels, anti fog spray and glass cleaner (they suggest not using Windex, though – it weakens the lens.) Also, lunch, water, snacks, driver and paintball money, and a fun attitude :) WHAT IF IT RAINS? You get wet. This is an outdoor game, you will also get dirty! WHAT IF YOU CHEAT? You suck, and we will all, even your own teammates, shoot you in the back, as we did a few years back to a flagrant cheater. No joke. WHAT IF I CANCEL? Full refunds issued until Monday, November 9th (if you sign up after the 9th, you are committing to coming). After that, you will be responsible for finding a replacement or eating the cost.
