Description
The gorge is a class III/IV river in the Adirondacks that is about as much fun as you can have while still being accessible to beginners. Expect lots of big rapids and exciting wave trains as we travel the 17 miles of the gorge in guided rafts. April is the time of year to go, as snowmelt from the high peaks leads to big time fun. This ain't no Delaware of Lehigh River float trip!!!
Best of all, this year, we are pricing the trip at an ALL INCLUSIVE $99 (early bird). This includes:
* Transportation by coach bus from the Upper West Side. This way, you can make new friends en route, and you aren't spending your travel time with the same 3-4 people who may or may not be your type.
* Whitewater rafting on 14 foot self bailing rafts, along with one guide per raft and safety kayakers in case one of us takes a swim (very possible).
* Full wetsuit, booties, helmet.
* Tip is already included in the price.
Basically, you can come without your wallet. For those who have gone white water rafting, (or paid for a coach bus), you know this is a pretty great deal. We were able to negotiate this price in exchange for their using 13 year old guides fresh out of the "Rapids backwards-R Us" guide school. Ok, seriously, it cuz wer'e a 501c(7) non-profit club and because we are anticipating a good turnout to give us economies of scale.
TRIP FAQ
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE RIVER AND WHO THE TRIP IS SUITABLE FOR.
The Hudson River Gorge is one of the premier Rivers in the Northeast, offering Class IV rapids along 17 miles of river. By comparison, the Delaware River is Class I and the Lehigh is a II-III. The trip is a good adventure for seasoned veterans, but is also an appropriate trip for fun loving people who are whitewater rafting for the first time (we just don't recommend you sit in front to start). The trip is a full day adventure.
The gorge is about 3.5 hours north of the city, in the Adirondacks.
WHO ARE OUR GUIDES?
Like years past, we are going with Wildwaters http://www.wildwaters.net/, who have a reputation for being fun and safe.
HOW WILL WE GET THERE?
The JOC party bus will leave from 95th and Columbus at 5 am sharp. The trip is 3 hours and 50 minutes long, according to googlemaps. We will depart from the rafting place to go back home at around 5:00 pm. Please note that if we do not get a minimum of 28 people for the bus, we will have to work out carpools.
WHAT IF I HAVE MY OWN TRANSPORTATION ARRANGED?
The price drops down to $69.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
One may cancel until April 8 without penalty. They will be refunded the full amount that they paid. After that, the person must find a replacement on their own who will pay the one who cancelled directly. We can try to help, but make no guarantees.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
To sign up, you must do two things:
A)Go to www.jocrafting2010.eventbrite.com and register.
B) Pay the $99 (or $115 after April 1) via paypal to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . No other means of payment is accepted! If you are not comfortable using paypal, please have a friend pay on your behalf. When doing so, have them write your name in the memo section of the payment.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?
April 1 for the early bird, April 13 regular, or until space on the bus is full (then you have to arrange your own way).
Hope you can make it, and can't wait to see you all there!
