Have you ever just been sitting around, watching the fishing channel, thinking to yourself "hey that doesnt look too hard?" Well here is the event for you! Take a big boat, some of your closest JOC buddies, ... and an ocean full of fish just waiting for you to tempt them with tasty morsels and you have an afternoon of fluke  fishing (yes, fluke is a kosher fish)!

When Specifics:

The trip is planned for July 25, 2010.

The boat leaves at 1:00 pm sharp and will return to dock ~ 6:30 pm. You should be at the boat no later than 12:45 pm.

Where is it?

The boat sails from Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. This is about a 90min drive from the Upper West Side or Brooklyn (plan on 2 hrs to account for beach traffic)

GPS Address:

2 Simon Lake Drive
Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716

Directions:

Garden State Parkway (North or South) to Exit 117 for Keyport / Sandy Hook.
Follow signs on exit ramp for Route 36.
Continue on Route 36 for approximately 9 miles - when you reach Leonardo you're getting close!
You will pass a McDonald's on your right, then a Foodtown Supermarket.
Take the next jughandle which will put you on First Avenue. (There will be signs for the Municpal Harbor.)
Cross over Route 36 and continue down First Avenue to the end of the street.
The Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor will be on your right.

What does it cost?
Cost is $55. This price includes:

  • A ride on a really nice big boat
  • All the bait you can carry (while on the boat)
  • Rental of a fishing rod, real, line, hooks, and associated gear
  • Expert assistance in retrieving and detaching your minnows (or bigger fish if you are lucky)
  • Tip for those experts assisting you
  • Photos of you holding your catch
  • Priceless time with 29 of your new JOC friends

How do we get there?
I will put out a list of drivers once everyone has signed up. It will be your responsibility to contact the drivers and arrange a ride. Fortunately, most of our drivers are very accommodating and people do not tend to have problems with this aspect of the trip. Participants will be expected to reimburse drivers generously, keeping in mind high gas prices, tolls, and wear and tear on their cars.

How challenging is it?
Although not so challenging, you may be faced with a ferocious fight to the end with a 5 lb fish (if you are lucky!).

What should I bring?

You will need:

  • Motion sickness pills (it is a boat, it will be moving, you do the math)
  • Suntan Lotion
  • Lunch/Dinner
  • Rubber soled shoes (you dont want to slip on the wet deck)
  • A water/wind resistant jacket
  • A hand towel (to wipe your hands from bait)
  • A change of clothing (nothing pushes good friends apart like the smell of the ocean and fish on a car ride home)
  • A trash bag (to throw your ocean and fish laden clothing in for the ride home)

How much space is there?
We have space for 30 people
