 What: With apple picking season winding to an end, and the weather turning, apple and pumpkin picking seems the perfect way to spend a fall Sunday.

            Get your apples for the fall apple pies and pumpkins for carving, pies and soup just in time.

            Additional fun will include the optional pony ride and cow train for kids and corn maze for (bigger) kids and adults too! (All at additional cost).

            It’s a great Sunday outing for you and the family and the weather is supposed to be great, so come join us!

When: Sunday, October 23, 2011. We will meet up at the farm in Modena, NY at 10:00 am for a half day of family fun in the great outdoors. Stay as long as you like (or as long as your driver likes), but generally speaking apple picking is an activity which lasts just a few hours, so we should be done by 1:00 p.m. (Later if you choose to stay for the corn maze.)

Where: Approximately 90 minutes from the Upper West Side at Hurds Family Farm in Modena, NY.

How much does it cost? Admission to the orchards is free—pay just for the apples and pumpkins you pick. $3 per ride on the cow train. $5 for a pony ride. $5 admission to the corn maze. $10 for the package deal (Most kids will love it!) If you are getting a ride to the farm: $15 to reimburse your driver for gas, tolls plus wear-and-tear on the car.

How do I register? Fill out eventbrite registration at http://applepicking2011.eventbrite.com , and you’re done. Wait to get a confirmation email from me personally stating that I have received your registration.

How do I get there? Once everyone has registered, I will send out a contact information list of the drivers and their locations. It will be up to you to contact the drivers and request a ride. Please do be courteous and do not book rides with multiple drivers. Please be at the designated pickup spot on time and please have the $15 driver fee in cash ready to hand to your driver.

What to wear/bring: Dress appropriately for the weather (a high of 61 and partly cloudy according to weather.com). Layers are recommended. Wear comfortable shoes—you will be standing and walking a lot. Do not wear heels—you will be walking through an orchard and/or a pumpkin patch. Bring plenty to drink, snacks, and a sandwich for the way (we will be out lunch time).
