Description
With lots of snow on the ground, let’s try to use it before it melts.
Have you always wanted to learn how to ski (or snowboard), but never mustered up the courage to go with your friends who were skiing since age three? (Smart move – I tried and do not recommend it.) Do you wish you could just spend a day playing in the snow? Have you wondered if ski lifts are as scary as people say? Do you have friends who couldn't stop talking about our previous sold out ski trips, even into Spring (yes, we've heard this before), and yearn to re-live it yourself?
This is your chance to experience one of winter's most thrilling sports firsthand. JOC will endeavor to take on Tuxedo Ridge, learning to ski or snowboard while gaining bragging rights. Plus, if you learn to ski Jan 10th, you can plan a trip to Vail or Northern NJ later in the winter to make use of your new skills.
The Plan
We will meet up SUNDAY JAN 10 at Tuxedo Mountain (about 35 miles from the GW Bridge) at 8:45am, take a group lesson (split by level), ski, break for lunch, ski and meet for a mid-afternoon snack at 4:30pm. We expect to be in the city around 6:30pm. Note that this is a close, smaller mountain with mostly beginner and intermediate trails: http://www.tuxedoridge.com/.
The Tentative Schedule
- Leave for an amazing day of skiing / boarding
- 8:45 Arrive at Tuxedo and gather equipment to get ready for our hour lesson. Suiting up is a long process, so please arrive on time. If you do not, you may miss the lesson.
- 9:00 ski and lesson
- 12:00 lunch
- Ski until 4:30
- 4:30pm snack
- 5pm depart for home
- Early Bird (paid by 11:59pm Mon Jan 4th) - $68 for skiing or boarding (includes lift ticket, rental, lesson and light lunch)
- Late Bird - $74 for skiing or boarding (includes lift ticket, rental, lesson and light lunch)
We will offer full refund via Paypal payment cancellation through Mon Jan 4th. Afterwards, no refunds.

Thanks everyone for a great day on the slopes! With 9 boarders and 18 skiers, we tore up that slope like we were shread'n paper.
After gearing up and filling up on cold eats and hot drinks, we broke up for lessons, hanging with each other and helpful instructors as we brought out skills up a notch. We mt up for lunch, more time on the slopes, snacks and impromptu mincha with other Tuxedo Ridge patrons we borrows for our purpose. The food and snacks made our excursion a real party. We relaxed on the slopes and a few of our snowboarders got to sunbathe in 20 degree weather lying and chillin' on the top of the slope. We owned the place. I got complimented over and over from the Tuxedo Ridge staff how much they enjoyed us and what a great group we are. Oh yeah, and we had fun.
We were thrilled to meet some new JOCs who should become part of the family. Special thanks to our drivers Daniella, Adi, David, Azadeh, Ortal, Deby, Eytan, Nancy, Marina and Yoshua (and yes, I'm including our two self-drivers since you enabled someone to come as well.) We had a secret weapon on snowboard and some crazy fast learners on skis and board. It was a real pleasure to have many returnees from previous ski trips (Raphael, Sashi, Hadassah, Azadeh, Hannah, Joel, me and Amy) - once we get you hooked... I improved my carving on the snowboard (a bit of a disturbing word) as we glided down together, encouraging and enjoying being there. Congrats to each of you who improved markedly on the slopes and everyone adventurous enough to be a first-timer (as we all were at some point).
If you took pictures, please send them to me so we can try to get them on the website! Thanks very much in advanced. If you want anyone's info from the trip, email me and I'll try to make the connection.
Stay tuned to JOC emails for MORE SKI TRIPS THIS SEASON!
See you soon again with that white stuff. Thanks for spending a day enjoying life with us!!!
Best,
Amy and Jennifer
