Description
Hi all!
For the JOCers out there with kids, this trip is for you!
On Sunday evening, September 5 (of Labor Day weekend), the JOC has once again booked a group campsite in Harriman State Park for some JOC Jr camping mayhem.
Woo hoo!
The fun begins with an optional short hike on Sunday up Tom Jones Mountain (1.5 miles, 2-3 hours). The exact starting time is to be determined.
Then, we'll head to our campsite at nearby Tiorati Plateau. This is a very large group campsite that we will have entirely to ourselves, as opposed to the very loud, music blaring other campsites in Harriman. The only downside is that there are only pit toilets locally -- the flush toilets and showers are a 5 minute walk away.
Whether you come hiking or not tha day, plan to meet at the campsite late afternoon. We'll pitch tents, have a BBQ cookout, roast some marshmallows and newts, enjoy some quality time with your family and the JOC family, do some off-key singing/crying, maybe have a night walk with the kids and with luck, lose a few, then go to sleep (hah!).
Also, if the weather is nice, there is a beach a short walk away, which we can enjoy either that day or the next.
The next day, we'll pack up the tents, and go our separate ways. Some families may opt for an excursion to nearby Bear Mountain Zoo, or others may go shopping at Woodbury commons, also not too far away. There are many hiking options, of course. From experience, however, don't expect too much activity since kids and parents are usually pretty tired.
The trip costs $39 per adult, $19 per child, which includes campsite, BBQ dinner, breakfast, bag lunch. Infants are free. Troublemakers cost double.
If you're interested in coming, Please go to www.jocfamilycampin g2010.eventbrite .com and register and pay there. PLEASE ONLY REGISTER FOR YOUR FAMILY!
I have room for 72 people in total, which is about 15-18 families. We had 15 families last Memorial Day weekend and it was great fun. Space will be allotted on a first come, first served basis, based on registration and payment on the registration page. Please note that this trip is ONLY for families. While there is no maximum age per se, attendees from the last two years have ranged from 0 until about 10.
The trip is fully refundable until August 23.
Details on directions and packing list will be sent to attendees. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me here. Please be patient if you don't get an immediate response as my email access is somewhat limited.
Thanks, and look forward to seeing you there!
