Final details for JOC Riders Memorial Day Motorcycle Ride (Please RSVP ASAP)

Dust off your helmet, grab your kangaroo-skin gloves, hop on your favorite 2-wheeled motorized conveyance and join the JOC for its JOC Riders Motorcycle Ride to the Catskill Region on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.

The ride leader will once again be Chaim Lazarus who has extensive knowledge of the best places to ride in the Catskill region, with great views of the Hudson Valley and lots of twisty roads to test your riding skills. All of my past rides have been led by Chaim and the day has always been amazing. For this event Chaim will also be taking my place as the ride manager and assisted by Joel Golovin, as I am personally unable to attend.

Grab your Hog, Rice Rocket, Cruiser, or highway-capable Scooter and meet Chaim at 10:00am at Bubba’s Bagels in the Wesley Hills Shopping Plaza on Rt 306 just north of Monsey NY. This location is approximately 40 minutes from the bottom of the Palisades Parkway.

We plan to have a group leaving from the Upper West Side of Manhattan outside of Sing & Sing Market (the southwest corner of W96th and Columbus) at 9:00am SHARP and meeting other riders on the way at the parking lot at the first northbound gas station at the bottom of the Palisades Parkway at approximately 9:20. If you are coming from another location such as Brooklyn or Westchester please arrange to either meet in one of these locations or meet the group directly at Bubba’s bagels.

This ride will be different from previous JOC Riders events as we will not be providing lunch. Please bring your own lunch and enough beverages to keep you hydrated for the entire day. Feel free to bring whatever extra food you wish to share, I just ask you please be sensitive to the kosher standards of others on the ride.

Expect a 150-200 mile riding day with a nice break for lunch and at least 1 stop for gas in the middle. I recommend that you start the day with a full tank of gas.

For this event I am requesting a donation to the JOC in the amount of $2. This donation is not mandatory, but it goes to help the not-for-profit JOC plan these fun and exciting events that we all enjoy.

In case of rain the event will be postponed to a later date TBD.

If you plan to attend, please email me at

toolboxjesseATyahooDOTcom and provide me with:

1 Your Full Name

2) Your Cellphone Number

3) Where you are coming from

4) If you know of any other motorcyclists coming with you who have not contacted me directly

I suggest you contact me by Friday afternoon May 27. The event will be capped at 20 motorcycles so please contact me as early as possible to confirm your spot.

FAQ-

Will there be food?

Food will not be provided for this trip. Feel free to bring whatever you like for yourself or to share with the group- I just ask whatever you bring to share should be Kosher.

Can I bring someone?

If you are comfortable riding with a passenger, and your passenger is comfortable riding on the back of a motorcycle I encourage you to bring him/her. I have had a few people contact me asking to come as passengers, so if you would like a passenger I may be able to accommodate you.

Can I tell my friends who also ride and are Jewish?

That would be great, but I ask to have your friends contact me and let me know they are coming rather than just show up on their own so we know to expect them.

What if I don’t have a motorcycle?

Maybe you can rent or borrow if you have a valid motorcycle license. Check out www.eaglerider.com/ for rentals in your area

What if I don't have a valid license?

Take the permit test at your local DMV, Take a 3-day ridercourse sponsored by the Motorcycle Safely Foundation www.msf-usa.org, and join us for the next JOC Riders Motorcycle Ride, whenever that happens.

Will it be dangerous?

There is a certain amount of inherent risk in any such activity. I encourage each individual rider to gauge his/her skill level to determine if he/she is prepared for the rigors of such an event. We will be riding as a group and keeping to the posted speed limit (up to 70 mph in some areas), and I hope that this will be enough to keep this event both safe and fun. Of course the JOC and I assume no responsibility for anything that may happen on this or any other JOC event. You will be required to sign a waiver with your emergency contact info prior to the start of the ride day at Bubba’s Bagels.

I hope you can make it!
