JOC Bicycle Ride
Who: JOC members
What: Bike rideWhere: Manhattan’s West Side to Fort Lee, NJ
When: Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 10:30AM
Why: Check out gorgeous views from the GW Bridge, see the start of fall foliage and burn some calories too!
Cost: $3 JOC Fee (+ bicycle rental fees for those renting)
The PlanWe will be meeting at the 72nd St park, corner of Riverside Drive and West 72nd St. Bring your own bike or rent one from the new bike store on 72nd St (MASTER BIKE SHOP, 265 West 72nd Street.) You are responsible for renting your bike. JOC will not be covering any part of the rental (or damage) fees. For those of you who are bringing your own bicycle, please make sure it is in proper working condition (ie; the tires are inflated properly and the brakes work). Once everyone has their bikes ready to go, we will head west to the bicycle path along the Hudson River and ride north. We will be stopping occasionally along the path to hydrate rest and re-group. We’ll continue along the Greenway until the George Washington Bridge, and then take the 9W to Fort Lee. Depending on the group, we'll continue along the 9W for up to 10 miles.
What to Bring & Wear: Bicycle & Helmet. No helmet, no riding. Our group witnessed an almost fatal accident when two experienced bikers collided on a bike path last Sunday. Helmets saved their lives. Cycling Shoes or Sneakers Cycling Gloves, Pump, and Spare Tube / Patch Kit are optional Comfortable Clothes (synthetic / breathable are the best) Backpack (to hold the following) Water Bottles / Hydration Pack filled with Water or Gatorade (2-Liter minimum) Lunch (for when we stop) and Snacks Sunscreen & Sunglasses JOC 3$ Fee (+ $$ for rentals fees for those renting and icecream) A Fun Attitude and Lots of Energy!
